This year, a transformative $5,000 grant from Elexicon Energy empowered our Backpacks for Kids program to provide unparalleled support to 850 children across Northumberland County and Alderville First Nations. This strategic investment allowed us to move beyond essential school supplies and address another critical barrier to learning: nutrition. We provided age-appropriate, high-quality snacks in every backpack, ensuring students had the fuel they needed to concentrate and thrive.
Elexicon Energy’s support was the catalyst for creating truly customized packs:
- JK/SK & Grade 1: Packs designed to spark joy, build foundational skills, and include child-friendly snacks.
- Grades 2-5: Age-appropriate tools, education kits, hardcover books, and a variety of energizing snacks.
- Grades 6-8: Advanced supplies like math sets and educations kits, paired with snacks suited to growing teens.
- High School: Crucial resources like scientific calculators, math kits, education kits, and snacks to power them through long days.
Furthermore, their partnership allowed us to adopt a holistic approach to child wellness. This year, every backpack included:
- A Robust Nutrition Kit: We carefully selected Goji Juice, Made Good granola bars, wholesome treats, juice boxes, Gatorade for rehydration, and veggie snacks for teens to provide sustained energy and meet diverse tastes.
- Oral Health Kits, compliments of the Kawartha Haliburton Pine Ridge District Health Unit.
- Grade-Specific School Supply Kits with essential school supplies for each grade level.
“We are profoundly grateful for visionary partners like Elexicon Energy,” said Alicia Vandine, Executive Director, Northumberland United Way. “They understood that a hungry child cannot learn. Their investment provided not just pencils, but fuel for potential. They helped us send a powerful message to kids: we care about your success in every way, from the calculator in your hand to the energy in your body.”
Elexicon Energy’s commitment powers potential across Southern Ontario. We are grateful for their leadership, which directly enables us to nourish minds and bodies, strengthening our community’s future one student, and one backpack, at a time.
