$72,200 OTF Grant Gives Northumberland United Way new opportunities to recover from the pandemic

In 2021, Northumberland United Way received a $72,200 Resilient Communities Fund grant from the Government of Ontario through the Ontario Trillium Foundation to rebuild and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic by creating a new space for community collaboration. The project which will be completed over the next 12 months will give non-profit organizations in the community increased access to safe and accessible meeting and program space for years to come.

“Northumberland United Way works incredibly hard to better our community,” said the Hon. David Piccini, MPP. “This investment from our government will help them deliver on their mission to bring people and resources together to build a strong, healthy and safe community for all by providing a new space for community collaboration and new digital opportunities to improve community engagement. When we support United Way, we aren’t just supporting one organization. Thank you to Northumberland United Way for their ongoing work in support of non-profits in our community.”

The new renovations will include a large, COVID-19 friendly, meeting space for community groups and local non-profits, individual office desk spaces available for booking, access to audiovisual equipment and storage. Once completed, the community space will be available to local non-profit organizations for meetings, client outreach, and programming. And thanks to the $72,200 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, this will allow for improved outreach in the community. The grant also funded new digital opportunities to improve community engagement with United Way donors and supporters.

“The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be underestimated,” said Bobbie Dawson, CEO, Northumberland United Way. “This grant has allowed needed renovations to be made to allow for centralized office and meeting spaces to better serve the Northumberland community.”

Northumberland United Way is committed to preserving this space and ensuring that it remains available for many community activities over the course of the year.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations. OTF awarded $115 million to 644 projects last year to build healthy and vibrant communities in Ontario.
