For four years, United Way Northumberland’s Period Promise has been tackling period poverty in our community. Over time, the focus has sharpened: it’s not just about access to hygiene products – it’s about addressing the broader issue of poverty, and poverty has no biases and no gender preferences.
On January 28th, we’re bringing together our Period Promise community partners for a Period Promise Summit. It’s what we believe to be an essential conversation about the challenges they see on the ground and what they think is needed to create long-term, sustainable solutions.
Sustainable programs don’t happen in isolation. They require listening, learning, and the beautiful act of collaboration – which is exactly why this summit matters. By understanding where our partners are struggling, we can continue to move the needle forward. To our donors and supporters: this is the groundwork.
Seniors are our fasting growing demographic in Northumberland County. So, we ask, how can Period Promise also assist seniors struggling in poverty? Is a hygiene-focused strategy what the community needs? This is why we gather. To ask the questions to our community partners to ensure that we’re not just addressing immediate needs but building something that impacts those who are struggling. That is our Period Promise: dignity for all, not just for today, but for the future.
