September 29, 2020 – Northumberland County Council has officially proclaimed October 1 – 8, 2020 as Local Love Week in Northumberland County.
Led by Northumberland United Way, this is a week to celebrate the hardworking non-profit organizations in our community that have worked tirelessly to support those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The pandemic has affected us all, but for those experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, and mental health challenges, it has created an extra strain on an already tough situation,” says Bobbie Dawson, Executive Director, Northumberland United Way. “It is our hope that Local Love Week will serve as a reminder of the incredibly supportive and loving community we live in.”
Local Love Week is an opportunity to encourage all citizens to join together and give back in a way that is personally meaningful for them. This could be through a financial or product donation, by volunteering your time, or with acts of kindness, big and small.
Local Love Week begins Thursday, October 1st with Northumberland United Way’s annual Campaign Kick-off.
“This year looks a little different. To ensure the safety of our staff, volunteers and supporters, we will be hosting a Drive-thru BBQ for our Kick-off this year,” says Bobbie. “We hope you will join us.”
The Drive-Thru BBQ will take place on Thursday, October 1st between 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Northumberland United Way’s office on Swayne Street. Pay what you can and enjoy a hot dog, chips, and a drink. All dollars raised will kick-off Northumberland United Way’s annual campaign.
