At United Way Northumberland, we’re proud to be part of a vibrant nonprofit community that works tirelessly to uplift those in need. This week we celebrate the incredible contributions of nearly 850,000 nonprofit workers across Ontario — individuals who dedicate their lives to serving, connecting, and supporting those who might be struggling.

Why This Matters:

Nonprofits are the backbone of our communities. They provide essential services like mental health, child care, seniors’ support, operating homeless and emergency shelters, and community health programs. They’re also leading the way in advocacy, innovation, and creating a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable future for everyone.

Here in Northumberland County, your support allows United Way to do more than just run programs — it enables us to act as a critical non-government funder, ensuring resources reach the organizations and initiatives that need them most.

Your Impact in Action:

Thanks to the trust and generosity of donors, United Way Northumberland:

  • Funds 8 community partners delivering vital services like housing, mental health support, and youth programs.
  • Provides micro-grants to over 24 food banks and food hubs, ensuring no one in our community goes hungry.
  • Operates 5 in-house programs that address pressing local needs, from poverty reduction to community development.

The Bigger Picture:

Ontario’s nonprofit sector is diverse and dynamic, contributing $65 billion to the economy while creating healthier, more connected communities. Here are a few things you might not know about nonprofits:

  • 77% of nonprofit workers are women — your neighbours, friends, and family members.
  • Nonprofits span a wide range of sectors, from arts and culture to housing, sports, and mental health resources.
  • During the pandemic, nonprofits innovated with solutions like virtual wellness programs, mobile food services, and outreach to isolated seniors — proving their adaptability and resilience.

Thank You to Our Donors!

Your trust in United Way Northumberland drives our impact. By supporting us, you’re not just helping one organization — you’re investing in a network of programs and partners that transform lives across our community. With your support, we’re building a stronger, more resilient Northumberland County.

This week, we say THANK YOU to the nonprofit workers who make this work possible—and to YOU, our incredible donors, for trusting us to lead the way.
