A Legacy of Caring: How United Way Stands Against Bullying Every Day

Pink Shirt Day is more than a symbol – it’s a commitment.

At United Way, we don’t just wear pink once a year. We live it every day through the programs we deliver, the partnerships we build, and the support we provide to those who need it most.

Bullying, in all its forms, creates isolation. It makes people feel like that have no one to turn to. That’s why our mission has always been to foster connection, provide resources, and ensure that no one in our community feels alone.

Beyond the Shirt: How We Support Those Who Need It Most

Standing against bullying means standing for something bigger: compassion, dignity, and the right to access essential resources. We do this through:

Period Promise – A commitment to provide free access to menstrual hygiene products regardless of your economic situation. Period Promise ensures people who are struggling financially have access to free menstrual hygiene products through our network of community partners.

Backpacks for Kids – Providing families, single parents, and caregivers with access to free school essentials to help alleviate financial strain, ensuring every child can step into the school year with confidence.

2-1-1 – A free, confidential service connecting people to mental health resources, financial aid, housing support, and healthcare – because no one should struggle in silence.

These programs, and many others, are made possible through the generosity of our donors and the dedication of both community partners and businesses.

United Way Northumberland has been serving this community since 1969. For 55 years, we’ve been more than a funder – we’ve been a connector, bringing together people, businesses, and organizations to uplift those who need it most.

This year, we are proud to call this milestone our Legacy of Caring. And Pink Shirt Day is another opportunity to remind ourselves of what that truly means.

Because no one should feel alone. Not today, not ever.

Join us in making an impact. Donate today and be part of a community that stands up for kindness, support, and connection.
