Period Promise Northumberland is pleased to announce that we have been selected as the recipient of the latest grant from the 100+ Women Who Care Northumberland, receiving $7,781 to go towards ending period poverty in our community. This donation was presented to Period Promise on September 19th, 2023, at the 100+ Women Who Care Northumberland’s September meeting at the Mill in Cobourg.
Period Promise, a program run by United Way Northumberland with support from Thrive Northumberland, is committed to making it easier for everyone to access the menstrual products they need. For those living in poverty or facing other challenges, getting these products can be tough. Since its launch in 2020, Period Promise Northumberland has made a significant impact by distributing over 30,000 menstrual hygiene products to individuals, families, and non-profit organizations within our local area.
With the support of the grant from 100+ Women Who Care Northumberland, Period Promise will be able to purchase a substantial quantity of menstrual hygiene products at a reduced cost through our partnership with Shoppers Drug Mart in Cobourg. This financial contribution will significantly enhance our efforts to ensure that individuals and families in need have access to a wide range of menstrual products.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to the 100+ Women Who Care Northumberland for selecting Period Promise Northumberland for this grant,” says Maggie Darling, Acting Executive Director, United Way Northumberland. “Together, we can fight period poverty in our community and create a place where everyone can have the dignity they deserve.”
