United Way and Local Police Services Launch the “Stuff the Bus” Challenge

United Way and Local Police Services Launch the “Stuff the Bus” Challenge: Win a BBQ Lunch for your staff, team or club

United Way Northumberland and Local Police Services are inviting companies, clubs, and teams to participate in the “Stuff the Bus” Challenge for a chance to win a delicious BBQ lunch, prepared by members of Local Police Services.

To enter the challenge, participants are encouraged to record a video of their collection drive or donation drop-off and share it on social media, tagging United Way Northumberland. Connect with United Way on Instagram and Twitter (@nlanduw) and Facebook (@NorthumberlandUnitedWay). The winning group will be rewarded with a BBQ lunch, cooked by members of Local Police Services.

“We can’t wait to watch the creative videos you’ll share,” says Maggie Darling, Acting Executive Director, United Way Northumberland. “By capturing your collection drive or donation drop-off in these videos, you not only showcase your dedication but also encourage others to get involved.”

Last week, United Way, in collaboration with Cobourg Police Service, Port Hope Police Service, and the Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), launched the “Stuff the Bus” campaign. The aim is to collect 2,000 backpacks by August 8, 2023, to support children in need within our community.

Backpack donations are accepted at the following drop-off locations:

  • Cobourg Police Station
  • Port Hope Police Station
  • Northumberland OPP detachments in Campbellford, Brighton, and Cobourg
  • United Way Northumberland
  • Staples Cobourg
  • Ganaraska Financial Credit Union Cobourg and Port Hope Branches
  • The Squishy Goose Indoor Playground

“This is a fun way to help support youth across Northumberland County and help reach the Backpack for Kids campaign goal of 2,000 backpacks collected,” says Chief VandeGraaf, Cobourg Police Service. “I have my BBQ flipper ready for the winning group.”

If you’re interested in participating and running a collection campaign, contact Chelsea Rankin at crankin@nuw.unitedway, in order to receive posters, flyers and other materials to help with your collection. We may also be able to arrange for a special pick up!

Since its launch in 2005, Northumberland United Way’s Backpacks for Kids program has provided support to more than 20,000 students in Northumberland County.
