United Way Celebrates 3rd annual Local Love Week in Northumberland County

Northumberland United Way is celebrating the 3rd annual ‘Local Love Week,’ officially proclaimed by Northumberland County Council from September 29 to October 6.

This is a week, led by Northumberland United Way, to celebrate the role of philanthropy and non-profit organizations in our community that support individuals and families in need. Local Love Week is a time to recognize the impact of the ongoing pandemic, inflation, and rising food and housing prices on our community and those who have been disproportionately affected.

“Thank you to our incredibly generous community of donors, volunteers, and supporters in Northumberland County who make our work possible,” says Maggie Darling, Acting Executive Director, Northumberland United Way. “Local Love Week is about celebrating our community’s collective impact that helps bring stability to individuals and families during these unstable times.”

United Way is kicking off their 2022 campaign today and is encouraging residents across Northumberland County to get involved. Local Love Week will end on October 6 with a CommUNITY BBQ at United Way’s office.

How can you celebrate Local Love Week?

  • Join United Way for a Drive-thru/Walk-thru CommUNITY BBQ on Thursday, October 6 at their office located at 62 Swayne Street in Cobourg from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Pay what you can, enjoy a hot dog and celebrate Local Love Week.
  • Make a financial donation. You can donate online at www.mynuw.org
  • Donate food or other in-kind products
  • Take part in United Way’s new Cars for Community campaign
  • Volunteer your time (if you’re able to)
  • Share an act of kindness
  • Reach out to someone who may be feeling disconnected or ask a loved one how they are feeling

This year, eight automotive dealerships across Northumberland County are coming together to support Northumberland United Way’s first annual Cars for Community campaign. Between September 29 to November 30, 2022, participating dealerships will donate $10 from every new and used vehicle sold to United Way. All dollars raised will help to support community recovery efforts in Northumberland County.

Thank you to this year’s participating dealerships: Boyer Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Cobourg, Cobourg Honda, Cobourg Mazda, Hannah Motors Sales and Service, JC&DC Motors, JSC Auto Sales, Stewart Auto Hub, and Vandermeer Toyota.

Local Love Week is a week where citizens can come together to help United Way and their community partners to rebuild a stronger Northumberland County by sharing acts of kindness, rallying for their favourite causes, and thinking about other people.
