United Way kicks off 2021 campaign to build a more equitable community for all

It’s that time of year again. Northumberland United Way has officially kicked off its campaign with a special challenge to the community.

“This year, we’re doing things a little different,” says Bobbie Dawson, CEO. “As the pandemic continues and physical distancing measures remain, we are finding new ways to work with our community partners, donors, and supporters to ensure that those in need in our community are supported during some of their most difficult times.”

Northumberland United Way’s 2021 campaign officially launched Monday, October 4, marking the beginning of Local Love week, a week to celebrate the role of non-profits in our community and the donors who support their essential work. During the week, community members joined in for a Seeing is Believing virtual bus tour to learn more about United Way and two of their community partners: WrapAround Northumberland and Community Care. Also, during the week, My Broadcasting Corporation hosted their 2nd annual Radiothon in support of United Way, which was used to announce a new matching gift of $20,000 generously donated by the Farren Family.

“We are so grateful to the Farren Family for this incredible gift,” says Bobbie. “By accepting our Matching Gift Challenge, you will see firsthand how your donation, when magnified by the support of your local community, can have a big impact!”

These dollars will support Northumberland United Way’s annual Community Fund that provides food and housing support, children’s programming, seniors at home help, mental health support, and more. Although Local Love week is over, the message remains. We are encouraged all residents to show their love for their community and for their neighbours who call it home.

As we continue to build on the momentum of Local Love Week, we’re announcing that this week is Will Week for United Way beginning Monday, October 18 to Friday, October 22. However, spots are limited and will book up fast. For a donation of $200, one of the participating lawyers in Northumberland County will donate their time to prepare a basic Will.
