Celebrating National Volunteer Week with a special spotlight on our amazing volunteer, Helen!
“My name is Helen Orendt, I have lived in Northumberland County for majority of my life and can be often found giving back to my community to multiple local organizations. I started my community work back in high school but currently I volunteer with Northumberland United Way for multiple reasons. I absolutely fell in love with the Backpacks for Kids Program for the reason that it provides students with essential supplies they need to have a successful academic year at school. This led to me recently make my impact greater, by joining the Board of Directors and Chairing the Fundraising and Volunteer Committee. Northumberland United Way is an umbrella for our community where they hit the needs of poverty, building strong communities, children and youth and senior services. With the help of the United Way, organizations in our community that are looking to fund specific programs or fill gaps to meet needs, are able to do so when applying to grants. It is important to note that without Northumberland United Way, the gaps in our communities can grow bigger and bigger. It takes one pebble to make a wave and United Way constantly does that. Imagine if there were multiple pebbles being thrown into the water, the impact can become that much greater. I am honored to volunteer alongside Northumberland United Way and the amazing work they do for our community.”
