Food insecurity remains one of the most pressing issues in our community, a reality made clear during our summer visits to food banks across Northumberland County. We heard the same message repeatedly: food programs are stretched thin, and the need for support has never been greater.
This growing challenge inspired the evolution of our Northumberland Eats program. Originally launched in December 2020 as a food voucher initiative to address immediate food insecurity during COVID-19, Northumberland Eats has grown into a comprehensive program addressing food security at its root.
With the support of Northumberland County, insights from our Community Matters survey, and the voices of local food providers, we developed Northumberland Eats 2.0—a five-part initiative designed to provide targeted solutions for food insecurity.
In December 2024, we unveiled the first two stages of the program: GROW and FEED. Through these streams, we distributed 24 micro-grants to agencies and organizations across Northumberland County, offering essential funding to food banks, food hubs, and community tables during a time of heightened need.
These grants are a testament to the power of collective action. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the commitment of our local partners, and the dedication of volunteers, we are able to sustain and strengthen the vital food programs that so many rely on.
The impact of your contributions is clear: reduced food insecurity, stronger community connections, and innovative solutions to long-standing challenges. But our work is far from over. With three more stages of Northumberland Eats 2.0 still to come—Seed, Thrive, and Learn—we look forward to continuing this mission together.
Thank you for standing with us and for making a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most.
