We’re thrilled to announce a $108,000 boost for school nutrition programs across Northumberland County, ensuring students have the nourishment they need to learn, grow, and thrive.
Through partnerships with IncrEdible Trent Hills and Northumberland Food for Thought (NFFT), we’re supporting local schools in ways that truly make a difference:
🍏 Greenhouse in Trent Hills: An $8,000 investment to create a large greenhouse where students can grow and enjoy fresh, local produce year-round — connecting them to food, science, and the environment.
🍎 Essentials for 36 schools: $100,000 in partnership with NFFT provides fridges, freezers, stoves, cutting boards, baskets, smoothie blenders, and more — so every child can count on a nourishing meal while at school.
We kicked things off last week at St. Joseph’s Elementary Catholic School, delivering supplies just in time for the first day of school. The team stood in front of a cheerful “Welcome Back” sign, a small but powerful reminder that community support is fueling young minds right from day one.
School nutrition programs are critical in Northumberland County. Access to healthy meals supports:
- Academic success: Students who are well-nourished are more focused, engaged, and ready to learn.
- Equitable access: Not all children have reliable access to nutritious meals at home, these programs help fill that gap.
- Community well-being: Healthy children mean healthier families and stronger communities.
Every gift to United Way Northumberland helps power this kind of impact. Together, we’re building a healthier, stronger future – one breakfast (and one blender!) at a time.
