NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY – October 23, 2025 – United Way Northumberland is pleased to announce the appointment of Christine Wilson as President of its Board of Directors at its recent Annual General Meeting in September.

Ms. Wilson brings more than three decades of leadership experience and community dedication to her new role. Best known for her tenure as Executive Director of CBC Television, she oversaw national programming, guided the development of award-winning Canadian series and international co-productions, and helped shape the cultural landscape of Canadian broadcasting.
Now enjoying her retirement, Ms. Wilson remains deeply involved in her community. After serving five years on the United Way Northumberland Board of Directors, she steps into the presidency with a clear commitment to building a stronger, more connected Northumberland County.
A long-time advocate for community-driven solutions, Ms. Wilson recently worked alongside fellow United Way board members to launch Bite Back Against Hunger, a four-night supper club fundraiser held at Pomona Ristorante in Colborne. The event raised more than $20,000 for United Way Northumberland’s Northumberland Eats program, which supports food security across the region. The initiative marked a shift from the traditional gala format to an intimate, locally rooted dining experience that celebrated connection and generosity.

“The United Way is uniquely positioned to identify and respond to the diverse needs of people in Northumberland County. I am continually blown away by the energy and generosity of my neighbours – and the abiding willingness to step up and help that I see every day in Northumberland. I am thrilled to be part of that,” said Ms. Wilson.

In her role as President, Ms. Wilson will lead the Board in advancing United Way Northumberland’s three strategic pillars — Poverty, Kids, and Community — and strengthening its position as the county’s largest non-governmental funder of human-services programs.

“Christine will also be leading an amazing group of volunteer board members through the development of our new 3-year Strategic Plan, enduring that we are positioned to meet the needs of our communities throughout Northumberland County.”

– Alicia Vandine, Executive Director, Northumberland United Way

Through this work, United Way Northumberland supports initiatives that address affordable housing, food security, and essential needs through programs such as Northumberland Eats and Period Promise; invests in children and youth through community partners and its Backpacks for Kids program; and builds vibrant, resilient communities by connecting people to services through 211 and engaging volunteers in events such as Day of Caring.

Under Ms. Wilson’s leadership, the organization will continue to unite donors, volunteers, and service providers to create long-term, sustainable change for people across Northumberland County.

Ms. Wilson lives in Colborne with her golden retriever, Maisie.
