For more than 50 years, United Way Northumberland has been the largest supporter of social services in Northumberland County, outside of government. We like to imagine ourselves as a helping hand – a symbol of hope, of service, and of help to people in our communities, working to build a better tomorrow, while supporting essential programs and services in Northumberland County as an organization that cares about all people.
When you think of United Way, many of you likely think of us in our traditional role as an umbrella funder: a larger organization that with the support of our generous community of donors, volunteers, and supporters, helps an array of not-for-profit organizations through annual funding and grant opportunities.
In addition, to funding these essential programs and services, led by our dedicated community partners, we also run five of our own programs to fill existing gaps in the community across our three focus areas: kids, community, and poverty.
Each year, thousands of people in our community are impacted by the work of United Way’s programs and funded organizations. However, we also advocate locally, and provincially for some of the most pervasive issues facing our communities.
Focus Areas
Our work is focused in three main areas: kids, poverty, and community.
