Community Matters

A lot has changed in recent years, and as we continue to navigate these changes as a community, we are mindful of the important voice of our friends, neighbours, and Northumberland County residents like you. Our community matters, and your perspective is crucial.

We’re launching Community Matters, a county-wide engagement project, to better understand the aspirations and experiences of individuals and families in Northumberland County.

  • We are engaging one-on-one with community partners, social service providers, and local leaders to uncover their hopes and dreams for our community, while also identifying our greatest strengths and opportunities.
  • We are visiting libraries and centres across Northumberland County, listening to the invaluable insights of those who live, work, and play here.
  • We’ve launched an anonymous survey to gathers confidential insights to earn a deeper understanding of the needs and gaps within our community.

We want to hear from you. This knowledge is instrumental in shaping our investments, programs, and advocacy work, ensuring that every dollar from our generous donors is channeled where it can have the greatest impact.

Community Matters Update 2025

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their thoughts and experiences through our Community Matters survey. Your input plays a vital role in helping us understand local needs and strengthen the programs and services that support Northumberland County.

We are pleased to share that Loyalist College’s Centre for Healthy Communities (CFHC) is now completing the analysis and report based on your feedback. The CFHC is an applied research centre of excellence rooted in social innovation. Collaborating with community organizations, government agencies, and health and social service partners, the CFHC works to strengthen impact on the social determinants of health through a health equity lens — aligning with Loyalist College’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The CFHC supports four foundational goals: reducing poverty, improving health and wellbeing, increasing access to quality education, and reducing inequalities. As a “centre without walls,” the CFHC conducts research directly within communities to promote collaboration and ensure findings have real-world applications. Their work includes environmental scans, needs assessments, program evaluations, and impact measurement — all supporting data-informed decision-making for stronger, healthier communities.

We look forward to sharing a preliminary report in January 2026, followed by a full report later in the year.

Thank you again to everyone who participated — your voice matters, and your input is helping shape the future of our community.
