Investing in Young Voices: Hiring A Summer Student Ready to Make an Impact

Every summer, students across Northumberland County look for more than just a paycheque. They’re looking for work that means something, experience that connects them to their community and helps shape the professionals they’re becoming.

This summer, we are excited to offer exactly that.

Pending confirmation of funding, we will be bringing on a Student Communications and Outreach Assistant for a nine-week paid placement, and we’d love for the right student to find their way to us.

Why this role, why now?

As demand for local services continues to grow, so does the need to communicate clearly, consistently, and accessibly with the residents, partners, and donors who make our work possible. This position will work directly alongside our Communications and Fundraising Coordinator to support social media content, newsletters, outreach materials, and event promotion – all in service of connecting Northumberland residents to the programs and supports they need.

This isn’t a coffee-fetching summer job. This student will help tell real stories about real impact across our three focus areas: All That Kids Can Be, From Poverty to Possibility, and Healthy People, Strong Communities.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for a student who is returning to secondary or post-secondary school in the fall; someone curious, community-minded, and eager to build skills in communications, outreach, and nonprofit work. Your field of study matters less than your enthusiasm and your ability to show up with ideas.

The details

  • 28 hours per week over 9 weeks
  • Up to $17.60 per hour
  • On-site in Cobourg but also travel throughout Northumberland County
  • Apply before April 30th, 2026 – interviews will take place in May

Why it matters beyond the résumé

We believe investing in young people is part of building a stronger community. Workforce development isn’t separate from our mission, it’s woven into it. When a student spends their summer helping amplify programs that reduce poverty, support children, and strengthen community health, they don’t just leave with experience. They leave with a deeper understanding of the place they call home.

If that sounds like your kind of summer, we’d love to hear from you.
