NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY – October 16, 2025 – For over a decade, Northumberland United Way has partnered with local lawyers to make essential legal planning more accessible through its annual Will Week, running October 20–24, 2025.
Will Week brings together caring legal professionals who help ensure that essential legal planning is within reach for everyone, not just those who can easily afford it. While anyone in the community can participate, the heart of the initiative lies in its purpose: to make professional legal services accessible for individuals and families who might otherwise be unable to afford them. Participating lawyers donate a portion of their fees during the campaign to support Northumberland United Way’s work in strengthening the community safety net and closing financial gaps that leave some residents without access to vital services.
This year’s campaign sees both familiar champions and new advocates joining the cause. Returning partner Mann McCracken & Associates is joined by Meaghan Adams Legal Professional Corporation and HIGHCLASS LAW – Sabrina Hussain, Lawyer & Notary Public. Their collaboration ensures that preparing a basic will or power of attorney is both affordable and community-minded, meeting a vital need for local families who might otherwise put this off due to cost or uncertainty.

“For over a decade, Will Week has been a bridge, connecting residents with trusted legal professionals who believe that everyone deserves the peace of mind that comes with being prepared,” said Alicia Vandine, Executive Director of Northumberland United Way. “This partnership reflects what United Way does best: bringing people and professions together to fill the gaps that leave some of our neighbours vulnerable. We’re deeply grateful to our local legal partners for continuing to make this program possible.”
During Will Week (October 20–24), community members can book an appointment directly with a participating law firm to have a basic will prepared for $400 or a power of attorney document for $140. Appointments must be scheduled during Will Week, but the legal consultation can take place at a later date. A portion of all fees will directly support United Way programs that help residents build stability, uplift families, and strengthen resilience, continuing a legacy of caring established in Northumberland County in 1969.
Without a will or power of attorney, families can face prolonged legal challenges, financial strain, and emotional stress during already difficult times. For over a decade, Will Week has helped bridge the economic gap, offering peace of mind and practical protection to those who might otherwise be unable to afford these essential legal services, thereby ensuring that no one in Northumberland County is left without a plan.
