Salary: $43,000 – $55,000 annually (commensurate with experience)

Position Summary
Northumberland United Way is seeking a Community Outreach and Development Coordinator to strengthen our capacity to deliver programs that reduce poverty, empower children and youth, and build strong, connected communities across rural Northumberland County.
This role is a key investment in organizational capacity and will focus on expanding partnerships, developing sustainable fundraising strategies, and piloting community-based programs that respond to local needs. The Coordinator will also support storytelling and communications efforts to increase awareness, engagement, and long-term sustainability.
Purpose of the Role
This position has been designed to support Northumberland United Way’s ability to:
- Help people build stronger connections and a deeper sense of belonging
- Support children and youth to develop social, emotional, and leadership skills
- Enable individuals and families experiencing poverty to improve stability
Key Responsibilities
Community Outreach & Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners, schools, municipalities, and service providers
- Conduct outreach across rural communities to identify service gaps, barriers, and emerging needs
- Engage underserved populations to ensure programs are inclusive, accessible, and community-informed
Program Development & Delivery
- Design, implement, and evaluate pilot programs focused on poverty reduction, youth empowerment, and community connection
- Coordinate program logistics, participant recruitment, and community partnerships
- Monitor participation and outcomes, ensuring programs are responsive and effective
Fundraising & Partnership Development
- Support the development and implementation of local fundraising strategies
- Build relationships with donors, sponsors, and community partners
- Identify opportunities for new funding sources and collaborative initiatives
- Contribute to donor engagement through storytelling and impact reporting
Communications & Storytelling
- Gather and document community impact stories through interviews with participants, partners, and stakeholders
- Develop written content for newsletters, social media, reports, and donor communications
- Translate program outcomes and data into compelling, accessible narratives
- Support increased visibility of rural issues, community needs, and program impact
Capacity Building & Planning
- Contribute to the development of a Rural Outreach and Engagement Plan
- Support the creation of a Fundraising and Sustainability Strategy
- Prepare evaluation summaries and reports to inform future programming and funding
- Strengthen internal processes that support long-term program delivery and growth
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in social services, community development, communications, nonprofit management, or a related field
- 2–4 years of experience in community outreach, program coordination, fundraising, or communications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including storytelling and content development
- Experience working with vulnerable populations and an understanding of rural community dynamics
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Working Conditions

Employment Conditions
- This is a contract position contingent on project funding through the Ontario Trillium Foundation Seed Grant
- A three (3) month probationary period will apply
- Employment is subject to satisfactory performance and ongoing funding availability

- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
